Atlético debuts in the Copa del Rey by visiting Orihuela

Atlético de Madrid begins its participation in the Copa del Rey against Orihuela on 29 October at 9 p.m. These two teams have various links, as there are two former Atlético de Madrid B players in their squad, Tevenet and Kily. The striker played on the historic reserve squad that was Second Division runners-up in the 1998-1999 campaign, while Kily left the programme last 30 June to continue his career at Orihuela. For his part, Jesús García Pitarch, Atlético de Madrid’s Sports Director, played for Orihuela for one season, in 1990-91. That was best season for Atlético’s Copa del Rey opponent, as they were only three points from earning promotion to the First Division.
