La Virgen de la Almudena dressed in red and white to receive the Europa League winners

The Cathedral was the first stop on the day of celebration for Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid took to the streets of the capital early in the afternoon to celebrate, with their fans the winning of the UEFA Europa League. A celebration that had its first stop in the Almudena Cathedral at 17:15, as has become traditional celebration for the red and whites.   The entire squad headed by Enrique Cerezo (President), Lazaro Albarracin (Vice President and Chief Social Area) Diego Pablo Simeone (Manager), Clemente Villaverde (General Manager and Director) and by the entire Board of Directors, were received with bells in the cathedral, where they laid the wreath, composed of red and white roses to the Virgin in the hands of Antonio Lopez, Luis Perea, Alvaro Dominguez and Gabi. The players gave the cup to the patron saint of the city during a ceremony officiated by Auxiliary Bishop of Madrid.   Rt. Consecrated Bishop César Franco said that 'the values of Atletico Madrid and sport speaks of realities. I pray you all for your families and your followers that you continue living that sportsmanship that characterizes you. '   Enrique Cerezo acknowledged the gratitude received stating that 'we come to the Church of Madrid to give thanks to God for this great victory and to offer this title to the patron saint of the city, also the patron of Atletico Madrid. The Virgin today we ask you to continue to intercede for this great red and white family, which will always be grateful to Almudena '.   The formal visit to Almudena ended with all team members kissing the robe of the Virgin before posing for a big family photo with the President and Auxiliary Bishop on the steps of the Shrine.
